About Madame Artiste
Akaimi Davis is a multidisciplinary visual artist whose career spans beauty, design, and therapeutic arts. She has worked as a licensed hairstylist and makeup artist, award-winning graphic designer, and corporate art director, and is now a Certified Art Therapy Practitioner.
After relocating to San Antonio from Austin in 2012, Davis was diagnosed with a rare, incurable blood cancer. During treatment, she returned to creating art with found objects—what began as a coping mechanism became a daily, meditative practice and the foundation of her current work.
Her art draws from both classical and folk traditions, celebrating Black, African, Latino, and Indigenous cultures. While widely recognized for her painting, her evolving practice reflects a holistic approach to creativity, healing, and identity.
Davis was named 2020 “Creative Artist of the Year” by Buy From a Black Woman and recognized by the Houston Chronicle in 2021 as one of “6 Black Artists You Need to Know.” She was also selected as one of 25 retailers for BlckMarket Retail’s flagship storefront.
She holds a BFA in Communication Design from Texas State University and is dedicated to creating transformative, therapeutic art experiences for diverse communities.
